![]() ![]() It's likely that CIG just need to 'tune' the point at which the AI makes the next decision - so that instead of waiting until the end of the animation to decide what to do next (resulting in that pause / stutter), it decides shortly before the end, and queues the next action up. To me, that sort of thing would probably be 'polish' and tuning - and CIG may have chosen to not do it because they plan to make more changes first. Hmmm - but is that an issue with the Bartender AI, or an issue with their AI framework (given other NPCs behave similarly at times?). so seeing even 'standard' single-player game level of AI in an MMO will be a big step forward. ![]() so yeah, it's not massively earth shattering, etc - but it is an improvement, both on what we previously had in SC, and for MMO games in general.įrom what someone else has said, Elder Scrolls Online may have similar AI to Skyrim / Oblivion (it's been so long since I played it that I can't comment) - but other than ESO, the vast majority of MMO AI is static, and undeserving of being called AI. ![]() they're just doing it more or less on a rota.Īnd, as a small thing - they don't notice when you're just looking at them, and ask what you want (as the bartender does - you don't have to actually 'click' on them to get their attention, just stand near the bar and look at them)Īnd all of this will apply to the other Social NPCs, etc. walk over to a shelf and look at it, or walk over to the anvil in the smithy, and start smacking it with a hammer, etc - but they're not actually making anything or doing so in response to a player or other NPC request. or, they'd grab some leather, then go over to the leather table, and start going through the various stages required to turn it into a hat, before giving it to you. In SC, you'd ask for a leather hat, and the shop keeper would either look around the shop (probably virtually, rather than animated) see the box of hats, walk over, grab one, walk back to you (even if you've moved!) and give you the hat. in Skyrim, if you want a leather hat, you just open the Shop inventory screen, and click on the hat - and it teleports to your inventory when you buy. It's more the fact that it's designed to work in an MMO environment (not a single player game), and that it's not just going through a pre-baked routine (which, from what I saw, is all Skyrim does).Į.g. ![]()
